2024 Spring Town Ball Registration is Open!
We have changed our Division set up this year, so we wanted to take this opportunity to explain some differences:
1. Starting this year, we will have a Majors and Minors Division that will go hand in hand. The Majors (Price: $250) will consist of 8 teams made up of Play 12, 11, and 10 year olds. We will also have a Minors (Price: $250) division consisting of 6 teams made up of Play 9 and 10 year olds. 10 year olds will be eligible for the Majors through our player draft. If a 10 year old child is not drafted into the Majors, then the child will be drafted in the separate Minors draft. All kids that played in the majors last year (This year’s 11’s and 12’s) will be in the Majors this year. In future years, the requirement will be all kids that played in the Majors the year before and Play 12 that year will be required to be in the Majors.
(Example: if a Play 10 year old child plays in the minors this year, that child could still play in the Minors next year as an 11 year old if they are not drafted in the Majors next year. Then the following year as a Play 12 the child would be required to be drafted into the Majors). Majors will play 3 games a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday Nights at 530 and 730 (Specific team schedules and practice schedules will be announced at a later time). Minors will play 2 games a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 530 or 730. (The hope is to maybe get a third game a week if we can work out all of the details) All games for the Minors and Majors will take place on the Norwood Little League owned and maintained fields behind the Coakley Middle School.
-Because of expected registration issues, the Nationals and Twins will be contracted from the Majors to get to 8 teams. All players from those teams will be put back into the Majors Draft. All other majors players will remain on their teams from last year. If there is an issue that needs to be discussed, please email Scott Niemisto at firstname.lastname@example.org. All issues will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
-All 10 year old children must be registered for the majors and then if not drafted, they will be placed in the Minors. If you would prefer your child not be eligible for the Majors draft, please email Scott Niemisto at email@example.com
2. AA (Kid Pitch)- Price: $225 will consist this year of 7 and 8 year olds. Players in this league will ease into live pitching at the beginning of the year, but eventually the opportunity to pitch to and face live pitching from their fellow players. The intention of the league is to introduce and develop these players in these important aspects of baseball. AA will have 2 games per week on Tues or Thurs evening at 530 and Saturday morning TBD. Tues/Thurs games will take place on Norwood Fields, while every Saturday game will take place on the Norwood Little League owned and maintained fields behind the Coakley Middle School.
3. A (Coaches Pitch) Price: $225 will consist this year of 5 and 6 year olds. This league will focus on the introduction to the fundamentals and rules of baseball. At the beginning of the season it will be a combination of tee ball and coaches pitch, but by the end of the season the goal is for each player in this league to be comfortable with live pitching from the coaches. (FYI: Coaches are standing or kneeling close to home plate and lobbing pitches into the players.) A Ball will play 2 games per week on Mon or Wednesday evenings at 530 and a Saturday afternoon game. Mon/Wed games will take place on Norwood fields, while Saturday games will take place at the Norwood Little League owned and maintained fields behind the Coakley Middle School.
4. Rookie Ball- Price: $100 will consist of 4 year olds and will focus on an introduction to the game with lots of other fun activities mixed in. It will vary between drills and game-type play. The league will meet once a week on Sunday Mornings and eventually add a 2nd weekday afternoon meeting once the weather warms a bit. Rookie Ball will take place on Sunday mornings on the Norwood Little League owned and maintained fields behind the Coakley Middle School. Weekday afternoon games will take place on Norwood town fields.
We will offer a discount for multiple players from each family. $25 off each additional player.
a. Norwood Little League is required to use the Little League International Play ages and our divisions are set up by kids’ play age, NOT grade levels. The general rule of thumb is that your child will be considered the age that he or she turns between 9/1/2023 and 8/31/2024. (Example: Your child’s birthday is 10/1/2012. Your child is a play 11 and will play in the majors this year regardless of what grade your child is in.) Norwood Little League, in accordance with Little League International, cannot allow any player that attains the age of 13 between 9/1/2023 and 8/31/2024 to play in Norwood Little League, regardless of their school grade.
b. League Fees will include a hat and a jersey. All other playing equipment must be provided by the family, but Norwood Little League does offer equipment yard sales/trades prior to the season (dates TBA).
c. All League Fees go towards paying for balls, catcher’s equipment for most teams, umpires for the Majors/Minors division games, trophies, and Maintenance costs.
d. As mentioned above, the fields and surrounding property at the Norwood Little League Complex (the rear of the Coakley Middle School) is owned and exclusively maintained by Norwood Little League. Maintenance costs include general upkeep of the fields, the batting cages, clubhouse, utility costs, etc. All cleaning/repairs/Spring set up/Fall breakdown is done by league volunteers (not the Town of Norwood).
e. In addition to volunteering to be a coach, please consider volunteering to help with Norwood Little League in these areas too.
f. If you are interested in becoming a coach for any age group, please reach out to Norwood Little League Vice President Scott Niemisto at firstname.lastname@example.org.
g. We have a new system that is directly connected with Little League International, Sports Connect. There will be some new features for this season as it progresses.
